Notes for: William McMakin
He m. (1) or possibly (2) after 1748, Sarah, dau. of Richard Thomas, who is named in her father's will of 7 Aug. 1753, (2) or (3) Mrs. Jane Miller, who could be the mother of some of his children. Two Newcastle Co. deeds confirm his relationship and his wife's name. The second, on 15 May 1764, in which he, his brother James, and Rebecca (William Sr.'s widow) sell 124 acres in Mill Creek Hundred to David Wilkin (Book W, p. 480). This may be about the time he moved to South Carolina. They were part of an early settlement associated with the formation of the Nazareth Church southwest of Spartanburg. The will of William McMeecken, dated 2 Aug. 1776, is in 96th District Will Book VV, p. 291. It would appear that he died ca. Jan. 1778. These are his known and probable children.
