Notes for: Daniel Budd Bodine
At an early age, he engaged in business in Middletown, Monmouth County. Later, he was active in financial enterprises, having been at the time of his death a member of the board of directors of the Trenton Banking Company and the Trenton Savings Fund Society. From 1851 to 1856, he was a clerk in the Court of Chancery, and later he was the mayor of Trenton for two terms. This information comes from the article on Judge Joseph Lamb Bodine.
According to the 1860 Census of Trenton, he may have another daughter who I don't have listed. There is a Maggie Bodine, age 3, listed in his household. This needs to be checked out. His father, Stacy, is also living with them. In the 1880 Census of Trenton, Mercer Co., NJ, he is listed as a lumber dealer. He's 66 and born in NJ, as well as his parents. I later found someone who listed a Maggy L. Bodine (b. Dec. 14, 1856 in Trenton) as their daughter. I will put her in for now, but the other information also had a ton of mistakes in it.

When Daniel B. Bodine died, his obituary in the Daily State Gazette of Trenton, NJ stated that he left 3 surviving children. W. B. Bodine(my great grandfather), Joseph L. Bodine (well known physician and surgeon) and Anna F.
In that Bodine plot I found the graves of Daniel and his wife, his son Joseph L. and his wife, and those of Elizabeth S., Lizzie, Maggie and 2 others which were so old that I am not sure I could ever decipher them.
When I get the book I ordered which inventories the graves in Mercer Cemetery I will send you further information and when the weather is warmer I will go back down there and work at getting additional information from the gravestones.

From Ronny Bodine:
In 1850, Daniel Bodine was living in Middletown Point, Raritan Township, Monmouth County, working as a merchant. By 1860, he relocated to Trenton, Mercer County where he was employed as a coal merchant. He served as Clerk of the Chancery Court from 1851 and subsequently Mayor of Trenton, New Jersey 1877-1879. Following his term as mayor he was engaged as a lumber dealer. Elizabeth (Lamb) Bodine was the daughter of Clayton and Elizabeth (Ridgway) Lamb. In 1900, aged 85, she was living with her widowed daughter-in-law, Frances Bodine, in Trenton. She reported that she had borne 9 children, but only 1 was then living. Daniel and Elizabeth Bodine were buried in Mercer Cemetery, Trenton, Mercer County. The date on his gravestone reportedly reads 17 Aug 1881 and according to the list of burials for Mercer Cemetery, he was buried on the 20th. See his obituary in the "New Jersey Mirror" of 24 Aug 1881 which states he died the previous week after two weeks illness from heart disease.
Funeral notice, The Trenton Times (Trenton, NJ) of 5 Oct 1901.
The funeral of Elizabeth, widow of the late Daniel Budd Bodine, who died Wednesday, was held this afternoon from her late residence 146 West State st. Interment was at Mercer Cemetery for the convenience of the family.

The “New Jersey Mirror” of 24 Aug 1881 only said he died in Trenton "last week" after two weeks illness from heart disease. The 24th was a Wednesday and according to the burial list for Mercer Cemetery, he was buried on 20 Aug, a Saturday. If his gravestone reads 17 Aug, then likely he was buried on the 20th, a reasonable day for a former mayor.
