Dwight Lambert Jones beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully, Friday, October 31, 2003 In the Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport, Oregon.
He was born in Kamas, Utah, Dec. 16, 1914 to Clarence Edward Jones and Olive Alberta Lambert.
He grew up in Metropolis, Nevada and Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended Utah State Agricultural College and the University of Utah, where he was editor of the student paper, The Utah Chronicle. He went to work as a reporter for the Ogden Standard-Examiner in February 1937.
He married Norma Olivia Bodine of Salt Lake City, April 30, 1937 in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He volunteered for military service in 1942 and was discharged as an Air Corps Flight Officer, Glider Pilot, in October 1945.
After working for the Salt Lake Telegram (assistant city editor) and KDYL Radio Station (news writer) and for the weekly newspaper at Blythe, CA, he joined the Associated Press (wire service) at Salt Lake City in February 1948. He transferred to the Portland bureau, Oregon in 1968. He retired from his career in news reporting as Broadcast Editor for the Portland AP office in 1980.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma, four children, Sandra Bruening, Jonathan B. Jones, Karen J. Frantz, and Jeffery B. Jones, 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel in Newport, Oregon, Nov. 5, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003 from 6-8 at the Bateman Funeral Home, 915 N.E. Yaquina Heights, Newport, Oregon.

Norma Olivia (Bodine) Jones, wife of Dwight Lambert Jones (deceased); and daughter of John Jay Bodine and Mary Olivia Hubbard (both deceased) passed away peacefully in her home in South Beach, Oregon after an extended illness.
Norma was born May 15, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended Lincoln Elementary School on 39th South and graduated from Granite LDS Seminary and High School in 1933. She attended the University of Utah in 1936, and married her childhood sweetheart in the Salt Lake Temple in 1937. They were active in the Millcreek Ward of the Cottonwood Stake for several years.
In the early sixties she was employed at the Cottonwood ZCMI store in the alterations department. She was a devoted homemaker and mother, raising four children in Salt Lake City, Jonathan, Sandra, Karen, and Jeffery.
One of the highlights of their lives was to take a BYU study tour of the Holy Lands in the late sixties. Dwight worked with the Associated Press in Salt Lake until 1968 when he transferred to the Portland, Oregon Bureau. Upon his retirement in 1980 they moved to Newport, Oregon.
She is survived by her four children, Jonathan Bodine Jones of Kaysville, Utah, Sandra Bodine (Jones) Bruening of South Ogden, Utah, Karen Bodine (Jones) Frantz of South Beach, Oregon, and Jeffery Bodine Jones of Battle Ground, Washington. One of eight children, Angus, Harold, Norma, Warren, Reid, Wanda, Wayne, and Lloyd Bodine, she is survived by her only living sibling, Wayne H. Bodine of Mesa, Arizona.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 21st from 6-9 p.m. at Bateman Funeral home in Newport, OR.
Children: Sandra Bodine (Jan 1939), Jonathan Bodine (1940), Karen Bodine (1945) and Jeffery Bodine (1953).
