Notes for: Louisa Elvira ("Lula") Bodine

Lulu was the second wife of John Thomas. His first marriage was to a Retta ??? Murray who died September 17, 1904. Two children were born into this mariage: James Jackson who died about 1901 and Edna Elizabeth who was born on February 26, 1903. She later married Gordon E. Bullard. Edna is shown as a step-child in the family of John Thomas McCaffety.

There is an Edna Bodine McCaffety buried in the Midway Cemetery in Coleman Co., TX with the dates 1888-1969. Is she the same as this Louisa Elvira Bodine? I have pasted below a couple of messages on this issue:

Hello Dave. My name is Terry Jenkins and I am a fellow genealogist. I have an interest in your Bodine family. My current interest has to do with the families buried in the Midway Cemetery in Coleman County, Texas, of which your Bodine family is represented. I am hoping that you won't mind if I use some of your information found on your website on my site dealing with the Midway Cemetery families. What I would use would be names, dates, relationships. My Gray family is buried at Midway and I've visited the cemetery many times over the past 10 yrs or so and know that at least a fourth of the people buried there are related to me or at the least closely associated with my Gray family. I felt this a great way to honor those of my family, by preserving their family connection for future generations.

I am looking for any pictures of those individuals buried at Midway that you might have, including James Daniel Bodine (1851-1917), Edna Bodine McCaffety(1888-1969), Susie Jane (Bodine) Rose (1877-1964), Roy G. Bodine (1909-2001) and Birdie McCaffety Sanders (1907-1992).

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Terry Jenkins

Hi Terry,

Nice to get your message. It sounds like you are doing some really nice work on this cemetery page. I wish you all the best in this endeavor. All the info I have on this family is at my web site. If I have any pictures, they would be there, but I don’t think I do. If you can find some Bodines in the phone book in Leon County, I bet they would be related to the people you mention below.

It’s interesting that your Edna Bodine McCaffety’s dates correspond with the info I have on. I have her name as Louisa Elvira ("Lulu") Bodine McCaffety (b. 1888, d. 1969). Do you know if they are the same person?

...

Best regards,
Dave Bodine

From Ronny Bodine:

On 12 June 1917, Thomas McCaffety registered for the World War I draft in Madison County, Texas. Her death was recorded in Potter County under the name Lula Elvira McCaffety.

***End of info from Ronny.

Hello. My name is Earlene Zickefoose and I am the Great Great Granddaughter of Louisa Elvira ("Lula") Bodine, the daughter of James Daniel Bodine. (She is still called Granny Mac by my family). My Grandmother is Birdie Vester McCaffety, her daughter.

I don't know how much information you have obtained since the date of this website, but I do have information regarding the family of "Granny Mac" and John Thomas McCaffety. In reference to Mr. Terry Jenkins comments on your wedsite - My Grandmother Birdie and her Step-sister Edna Bodine McCaffety were very close before Aunt Edna died. I have many pictures of them together.

If I can give new information or provide pictures that would add to your website, I would be glad to see what I could do!

Thanks,
Earlene
