Notes for: William Jourden

The last name on several of his children who died young is spelled "Jourden."

From Find a Grave:

Per a history of the Jourden family written by Lyda Mae Jourden Walker granddaughter of William & Ann Elizabeth Jourden and sent to me by a descendant Becky Pritchett and coupled with some of my own research. The Jourden's and Jone's came over from Virginia around the late 1850's on a flat boat along the Tennessee river. The Jone's stopped in Gilbertsville, KY because of a storm ran them a ground and they remained. The Jourden's went on further up the river to Altona, KY. William Jourden married Ann Elizabeth Jones in 1858 in Paducah once they were settled in. According to Lyda Mae, William was married to an Amelia Jones but the Census, Marriage and birth records state otherwise. There was a Jourden cemetery on the land the Jourden's owned but it was moved to the Calvert City Cemetery when the Pennsylvania Salt Company bought the land (Now where Arkema sits). It is not known if all the burials were relocated. The spelling of the name Jourden and Jordan have both been used by descendants of William. As far as the birth of William, it is unknown, the death certificate of his son William states he was born in England, the census records state either Indiana or Kentucky and research of other Jordan lines seem to show Virginia. I do not know his parentage as of yet. His year of birth is somewhere in the 1834 +/- 5 year range.

Something else from Find a Grave:

John is the son of William Jordan ~1835-1875 and Ann Elizabeth Jones 1843-1879. He is one of eight children, four of which survived into adulthood. He had two older siblings, sister Amelia 1859-1895 and brother William M Jr. 1861-1948 and five younger siblings Horatio "Rash" 1866-1943, Thomas 1868-1872, Ira D 1870-1872, Amanda 1873-1873 and Maggie Mae 1874-1956. Not much is known about John Henry's life or occupation. He was married to Martha "Mattie" Larimer on 7th Aug 1894. It was told by his son William Craten that John was kicked in the head by a mule and died. This occurred before the 1900 census and after his youngest son Henry Rash (pronounced Raysh) Jordan was born in 1897. John was buried in the Jordan Family Cemetery on their property, my great grandfather William Craten Jordan, John's son said he was notified that his fathers final resting place was being moved but he didn't remember where but it was most likely to the Calvert City Cemetery where other family members are located.
