Edgar, age 41, died 5 November 1941 at State Hospital No. 2 in St. Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri, where he had been staying for over three years. His cause of death was cardiac hypertrophy, due to coronary heart disease and arteriosclerosis. His death record shows that he was buried in Clarinda, Page, Iowa but his Find A Grave memorial shows his burial place as Oak Hill Cemetery, in Nodaway, Missouri.
