December 9, 2005 Suzanne D. LaLonde, 69, of Syracuse, died peacefully in her home on Friday. LaLonde graduated from the University of Colorado and later, while raising a family, earned a Master of Public Administration from Syracuse University's Maxwell School. She served as director of recycling and waste reduction for the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency from 1990 until 2001, when she retired. During her tenure with OCRRA, she established Operation Separation, the successful countywide recycling program that has served as a model for recycling efforts state- and nationwide. Throughout her life she volunteered for and held leadership positions with numerous civic, church and community organizations, including serving as president of the League of Women Voters of Syracuse and as a member of the LWV state board; the Syracuse InterReligious Council of Central New York; the Syracuse Catholic Diocesan Commission on Women; Family Workplace Taskforce; Thursday Morning Roundtable; and Voice of the Faithful. She has received many awards, including most recently the Lifetime Achievement Award from the New York State Association of Recycling, Reuse and Reduction, and the Post Standard Woman of Achievement Award in 1991. Survivors include her loving husband of 48 years, Robert T.; devoted children, Robert J. and wife, Laura Skosey; Judith and husband, Peter Bodine; Mary and husband, Dan Nourie; Jane; Suzanne and husband, Joe Romano; Jerome and wife, Melissa Young; Thomas and wife, Julie Zito; 11 adored grandchildren: Elena, Eve and Julian Skosey-LaLonde; Adam, Daniel and Benjamin Bodine; Luke and Colette Nourie; Marc and Marie Romano; and Kathryn LaLonde; and her siblings, John L. Denniston and his wife, Rose Mary; sister, Marion Denniston; sister, Coletta Huber, and husband, Larry. Her sister Dorothy Cushman predeceased her. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 15, at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 124 Alden Street, Syracuse. Friends may call on the family on Wednesday, December 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Greenleaf Funeral Home, 503 W. Onondaga Street, Syracuse.
