The Jefferson and Sarah Baggett were living 1880 in San Augustine County engaged in farming. Jefferson Baggett was buried in Liberty Hill Cemetery, near San Augustine, Texas.

On Friday afternoon at six o'clock the death angel visited the home of Mrs. Effie Baggett and took away a priceless treasure, the husband and father. Mr. Baggett had endured almost five long weeks of painful suffering without complaint. His faith in his Savious was unfailing. Mr. Baggett was born in Marion County, Georgia, September 28, 1848. In 1869 he came to Houston, Texas, and a year later he came to San Augustine county where he lived until 1910. He then moved to Shelby county where he lived until his death. He married Miss Sarah Bodine. To this union was born three children, two of whom survive. Later he married Miss Effie Snellings. To this union was born eleven children. Nine of whom survive. Mr. Baggett united with the Baptist church in his young manhood. He was deacon of the Liberty Hill Baptist church for a number of years. He was a true, devout Christian and always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and eleven children: John Baggett of San Benito, Tom Baggett of Dona, Texas, Mesdames Ida Tinsley, Ola Lovell, Mary Johnson, Lucille Adams and George Barto and Nellie Baggett of Shelby county; Renzie and Christine Baggett of San Augustine; three brothers, Tom and Cage Baggett of San Augustine and Andrew Baggett of Ironosa, Texas; three sisters, Mesdames Sallie and Catherine Epps and Mattie Bland of Blandlake and thirty grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The Champion extends its sincerest sympathy to the bereaved in this hour of bereavement.
