Notes for: Winnie Jane Bodine

Due to the time of death of the mother and no record of the marriage, information on this family has been extremely difficult to obtain. I don't agree with the email below, but it does give info on Winnie's cause of death.

Regrading James Hardy Stephenson, his parents were thought to be Winifred Bodine and Marion A. Stephenson, but is that correct?

Winifred Bodine died in Oct. 1869 after giving birth due to complications of the puerperium (I think that is what the attached record is implying), yet James' gravestone and census records give his birth as 1870 (see link below). If that is true he can not be the daughter of Winifred. Most likely his birth was 1869, but maybe James Hardy had different parents.

Just food for thought.

From Ronny Bodine:

It appears that Winnie Jane must have been married in Shelby County, Texas around 1867 or 1868. Her death was recorded in the 1870 Mortality Schedule for San Augustine County as W. J. Stephenson, age 19, married, died October. The cause of death was illegible. Perhaps her death resulted from having given birth to her only child, presumed to be James Hardy Stephenson, age 10, living with Winnie's father 1880 in San Augustine County. In 1900, James H. Stephenson incorrectly reported his birth in Sept 1870, which likely should have been Sept 1869. There is no record of Manin Stephenson following the death of his wife.

Children: James Hardy (Sept 1869).
