Notes for: John Leroy Newton

From conversation with Charlie Loggins, it is known that John Newton was a blacksmith and that he walked with a severe limp. As Charlie told the story, John would not let him sleep in the house and he had to sleep on a pile of burlap bags in the shop. Charlie said that John had an intense dislike for him and would try to kick him any time that he got near. Charlie was a man that did seem to love life and even managed to keep up his exercise in his older age by walking back and forth on a measured path within his home in Marshall, Texas.

Dave:

Interesting to see your listing including John Leroy Newton. My great-grandfather, William Crawford Newton, was also born in Jones County Georgia. His birthdate was in 1824. I believe they were brothers and had another brother, Isaac and a sister, Nancy.

I don't have much info on John Leroy Newton but quite a bit on William Crawford Newtons descendants. I believe their father was Frederick Newton and their mother's name was Sarah. I believe John Leroy was married prior to his marriage to Mary Ann Bodine. I don't know the previous wife's name but one of their children was John Frederick Newton and I knew a lot of his descendants. Most of these folks are buried in various cemeteries in Harrison County Texas.

Do you by chance have any information on John Leroy's ancestors?

Thanks,

Bill Newton
