Prairie City Woman Dies After Stroke

PRAIRIE CITY Mrs. Anna Van der Waal, 53, succumbed at her home in Prairie City Wednesday night around 10 o’clock, after suffering a stroke on May 28. She had been in a coma since that time.

Mrs. Van der Waal, the former Anna Levine, was born in Sweden, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Levine, and came to the United States with her parents when she was three years old.

Around 20 years ago she married James G. Van der Waal.

She is survived by two children, a daughter, Anna Mae, at home, and a son, Pvt. Dewey Van der Waal, of Camp Maxey, Tex.; also four sisters, Mrs. W. I. Smith, of Colfax, Mrs. S. Jaffory, of Savanna, Ga., Martha Levine, and Mrs. Walter Harshberger, of Deer Creek, Minn.; three brothers, Eric Levine, of Seattle, Wash., Jonas Levine, of Deer Creek, Minn., and Albert Levine, of Des Moines; and her father, P. E. Levine, of Deer Creek, Minn.

The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, at the Methodist Church, of which she was a member. The Rev. W. W. Marzahn will officiate at the services. Interment will be in Waveland Cemetery. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 14, 1945
