Ralph L Stewart, age 64, passed away at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, on Tuesday, March 30, 1993. Funeral services were held Friday, April 2, 1993, at the Presbyterian Church in Monroe. Dr. Thomas N. Bass, pastor of the church, officiated the services. Interment was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Ralph Stewart was born at Monroe on August 31, 1928, the son of Emery and Beulah Pendroy Stewart. On April 3, 1969, he was united in marriage to Darlene Postma Vanderwaal at Monroe. An insurance agent for 44 years, he owned and operated the Bruce Insurance Agency in Monroe. Mr. Stewart had also been a driver for the kindergarten bus route in Monroe. He did this for six years.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene, a stepson Randy Vanderwaal, a stepdaughter Paula Ross and husband Bob, and step grandson, Nathan Ross all of Monroe. Also surviving are his mother Beulah Stewart of Monroe and two sisters: Verneice (Mrs. Bob) Carns of Ottumwa and Dorothy (Mrs. David) Rexroat of Monroe, and two nephews: Stuart Rexroat and Brian Smith. He was preceded in death by his father in 1974.
Mr. Stewart was an active member of the Jasper County Historical Society, currently serving on its board of directors.
A memorial for the Monroe Elementary School Library has been established.
