DOVER -- The infant son of a pregnant woman who was killed in a car accident outside Marydel, Md., Saturday died Tuesday. The newborn baby, named Brandon Michael Bodine, was delivered by Caesarean section in the Kent General Hospital maternity ward after Saturday's crash. He died Tuesday at about 11:10 a.m. at the hospital, said Jean E. Bochnowski, hospital spokeswoman. The mother, Virgina Bodine, 18, of Hartly, was a passenger in a Ford Tempo that apparently swerved on Stafford Road to avoid striking a deer, according to Sgt. William B. Smith of the Maryland State Police, Easton Division. The vehicle went off the road and overturned. The driver of the vehicle, Amy Elizabeth Thomas, 19, of Hartly, and a passenger, Roseanne Renee Boyles, 16, of Smyrna were treated and released from Kent General Hospital Saturday.

A baby boy born last Saturday, following an automobile accident killing his mother, died 11:10 a.m. Tuesday at Kent General Hospital, here. Brandon Michael Bodine was delivered by Cesarean section after his mother, Virginia May Bodine, 18 of Magnolia, Del. was ejected from the car and died. According to Maryland State Police at Easton, Bodine was not wearing a seatbelt when the car she was riding in swerved to avoid hitting a deer. Police said around 5:30 p.m., Amy Elizabeth Thomas, 19 of Hartley, Del. was traveling westbound on Stafford Road east of Route 454 in Marydel when a deer ran into the path of her car. Thomas swerved to avoid the deer, lost control of the car which traveled off the right road side and overturned. Thomas and a third passenger, RoseAnn Renee Boyles, 16, of Smyrna were treated and released from Kent General for minor injuries. Bodine was a clerk in the shoe department at the Dover Ames Department Stores. She is survived by a brother, Donald West of Bishopville, Md.; and two sisters, Phyllis Cook, of Magnolia and Patricia Russo of Oxnard; California. Services for Bodine and her son, Brandon will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, Bradford and Reed Streets, Dover. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Kent County Heart Association, 9 Loockerman St., Treadway Towers, Dover, Del. 19901.
