Notes for: James M. Stephenson

It is now proven that this family came into Texas from Lowndes County, Mississippi in the mid 1850's. They probably first settled in Shelby County, Texas in 1854. By the 1870 Census, the father was already deceased. The abstract number on the tax roll then changed over from James to Mrs. Mary Stephenson between the years of 1869 and 1870. The family was not shown on the 1860 Census of Texas. This has made it extremely difficult to try to round up all of the information and tie it together properly.
