Notes for: Hannah Bodine

In the absence of direct evidence, it is here assumed that Hannah Bodine was the daughter of David Bodine for the following reasons: David Bodine lived in Hamilton County, Ohio where Hannah married in 1849. Her birth in 1824 places her in the appropriate age group in the 1830 and 1840 censuses for whom there is no named daughter. In 1880 and 1900, Hannah Bodine Benson stated her parents were born in New York, where David was indeed born. In 1880, she and her husband lived in Eastern, Franklin Co., OH where her sister Anna Connover also lived.

_____Benson and Hannah Bodine were married 30 Sept 1849 by R. S. _____. [Apparently the names of the groom and minister were illegible when transcribed.]

1860 St. Louis, MO: John G. BENSON 39 OH bricklayer, Hannah 33 OH, Martin 8 OH, George 2 MO, Laura 3/12 MO.
1880 Eastern, Franklin Co., OH: John G. BENSON 57 OH farming, Hannah 55 OH wife, Geo. W. 22 MO son, Maggie B. 14 MO dau.
1900 St. Louis, MO: Hanah BENSON Sept 1824 ON widow pts born in NY boarder with George W. Benson b. Nov 1857 [her son.]
The State of Missouri Certificates of Death for Martin R. Benson (1851-1927) and George W. Benson (1857-1946) both name as their parents John Benson and Hannah Bodine.
Note: A newspaper obituary was published in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for a Hannah Benson on 21 Dec 1907 and a burial permit was issued 2 Jan 1908, but this pertains to the wife of a William Benson.
