Naomi H. LaRoue, 82, a longtime Newberry resident, died suddenly at her home on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. Born in Stambaugh on July 11, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Oscar & Caroline (Thompson) Bodine. Upon graduation from high school, Naomi attended Northern Michigan University and was awarded a Bachelor's degree in Education. Following graduation she married Ernest LaRoue and they moved to Manchester while he attended dental school. She was employed for a short time as a Home Economics teacher in the Manchester School system. In 1962 they moved to Newberry where they started his dental practice. She was a dental receptionist for Dr. Ernest LaRoue and was the bookkeeper for his practice until their retirement in 1992 at which time their son Eric took over the practice. Naomi was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church and her pastimes included crocheting, sewing, and cooking but her passion was her grandchildren and flower gardening. Besides her parents and her husband Dr. Ernest LaRoue, Naomi is preceded in death by her brother Carlton "Bud" Bodine and her sister Norma Bjorkman. Naomi is survived by her son Dr. Eric (Sheila) LaRoue, DDS of Newberry her daughter Shelley (Randall Wellings) Saxwold of Ishpeming, grandchildren Matthew (Carly Vix) and Mark who are attending college and Kyle (Cherokee Anderson), 3 great-grandchildren, her brother David (Florence) Bodine of Illinois, her sister-in-law "Lynn" Bodine and her travelling companion Artie. According to her wishes, cremation services have already been accorded. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Gregory Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 11:00 am with Fr. Marty Flynn officiating. Family will greet guests at the church at 10:30am. Rite of Committal will be held in Forest Home Cemetery at a later date.
