Mrs. Rhoda Jane Bodine, 81 years old, a native and lifelong resident of Cape Girardeau county, died from lumbar pneumonia late Monday at the family home near Oriole. Mrs. Bodine, who was the wife of Louis Bodine, had been ill about a week. Becoming ill while visiting in St. Louis, she returned home last Thursday and since that time had been critically ill. Mrs. Bodine had spent all of her life in the vicinity of Oriole. Besides her husband she leaves a brother, William W. Kennard of Oriole. She also leaves a niece, Miss Louise Abernathy of Cape, and a nephew, W. E. Kennard of St. Louis. Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Iona cemetery near Oriole and were conducted by Rev. William Stack, pastor of St. Vincent's Catholic Church of Cape Girardeau.

Louis Jeromie Bodine, 99 years old, Civil War veteran, died of bronchial pneumonia at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday at his home, near Oriole. He had been ill but a short time. Funeral services for the aged man were held this afternoon at the Iona Cemetery, near Egypt Mills. Bodine had spent most of his life in St. Louis, but during the past six years had resided with a brother-in-law, W. W. Kinnard, near Oriole. His wife, Mrs. Rhoda Bodine, died last Dec. 22. He formerly resided in Cape Girardeau. Bodine was a member of the railroad crew which laid the first steel on the railroad from Cape Girardeau to St. Louis and during construction of the railroad was a road gang foreman. Born Aug. 26, 1832, at Natchez, Miss., Bodine lived in that section of the country for several years and when the Civil War broke out he joined the Union Army in Indiana and saw service throughout the war. Following the war he went to St. Louis, where he worked for Swift & Co. and Armour & Co. for many years. Bodine was married to Miss Rhoda Kinnard in 1876. There were no children. Besides his brother-in-law, Bodine leaves a nephew, W. E. Kinnard, and a niece, Mrs. Omer Abernathy of Oriole. Mr. Bodine was the senior member of the Century Club organized by The Missourian for persons older than 75 years. He was several months older than any other person listed.
