Notes for: Elmer Bodine
Based on the information for his parents, I wonder if Elmer wasn't born out of wedlock and then given up for adoption or raised by other family members. He is not in some censuses he should be in and he was born in 1870 when John and Augusta do not yet appear to be married. It needs more investigation.

Milissa (Dingman) Bodine was the daughter of Isaac and Charlotte Dingman with whom she lived June 1900 in Delaware Township, Pike County, Pennsylvania.
1910 Milford, Pike Co., NY: Elmer BODINE 32 NY fruit & vegetable peddler, Millisa 30 NY NJ wife, Daniel 5 PA son. Elmer & Melissa were married 6 years. Melissa had borne 2 children, but only Daniel was living.
1920 Blooming Grove, Orange Co., NY: Elmer BODINE 50 NY, Millie 38 PA wife, Daniel 14 NY son, John 85 NY father widowed.
1925 Walden, Orange Co., NY: Elmer BODINE 50 US electrical laborer, Melissa 44 US wife, Daniel 20 US son auto mechanic.
1930 Walden, Orange Co., NY: Elmer BODINE 52 NY laborer-odd jobs, Mellissa 46 NY wife. Elmer married at age 25, Melissa at age 19.
1940 Walden, Orange Co., NY: Elmer BODINE 70 NY laborer, Elizabeth 58 PA wife finishing-underwear factory.

Roosa Gap - Funeral services for Elmer Bodine of this village, who died Friday in a truck collision, will be held tomorrow at the Van Inwegen Funeral Home, Bloomingburg, at two p.m. Born in Montgomery Jan. first, 1870, Mr. Bodine was the son of John and Augusta Bodine. He was retired. Surviving him are his wife, the former Melissa Dingman; a son, Daniel, both at home; and three grandchildren. Interment will be in the Bullville Cemetery.
Note: The above obituary names his parents, but he was not living with them in 1880 when he would have been 10 years of age. He may have been living elsewhere with relatives or was adopted after 1880. He cannot be located in the 1880 and 1900 censuses.

Melissa Bodine was born 4 May 1882 and died October 1966. Her last residence was Bloomingburg, Sullivan Co., New York.
From New York Death Records:
Elmer Bodine died 23 April 1954 in Walkill aged 84 years.
Melissa Bodine, 86, of Burlingham, Sullivan County, died 20 Oct 1966.
Elmer Bodine was buried in Bullville Cemetery, Bullville, Orange County.
