Obituary, San Jose Mercury News (San Jose, Calif.) of 19 March 2006.
Vivian Leon, maiden name Pitts, of San Jose, CA, passed away on March 6, 2006, at Good Samaritan Hospital following a long illness. She was born in Freedom, CA, on May 20, 1939, and was a long-time resident of San Jose. Vivian retired as a Personnel Services Supervisor from the County of Santa Clara in 1998 after 20 years of service in the Human Resources Department. She was known to many as a fine artist, where floral works in oils were her specialty, as well as for her arts and crafts, dog showing and horticulture hobbies. Begonias were her particular passion. She also loved to read and introduced her extended family and friends to new authors by lending them many of the books she enjoyed. Vivian is lovingly remembered for her enduring good humor throughout her health difficulties, always laughing at life's complications. She is survived by her mother, LaRee Logan of San Jose; her brother, Phil Pitts of San Jose; three children, David B. Leon of Henderson, NV, Christopher J. Leon and Stacy A. Leon (both of San Jose) and her grandson, Ryan Gibson. She will be missed as much as she was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
[Note from Dave Bodine: From what I can gather so far, the family seems to have gotten the maiden name of Vivian incorrect. Vivian's father must have been Clayton Bodine since she was born in 1939 and Vivian didn't marry a Pitts until 1947. Maybe Clayton was the father and later adopted by her Pitts husband.]
