Notes for: Peter Bodine
I wonder if he was not a nephew of Abraham Bodine and Mary Lowe. It's something to keep in mind. The fact that this Peter has a grandson named Abram Low Bodine would seem to indicate that he was somehow related to that Abraham Bodine. I'm now thinking, after new research by Ronny Bodine, that this Peter must be the son of Peter Bodine and Agnes Constance de Bruyn.
Ronny sent me information on this couple. He could be one of the Peter Bodines already in the data. Here is what Ronny has on him:
Peter Bodine died intestate in Hunterdon County shortly before 16 July 1796 when an inventory was taken of his estate. Administrators were Esther Bodine and John Bodine, both of Readington Twp. Fellowbondsmen were Cornelius Wyckoff, of Readington Twp. And Joseph Atkinson of Amwell Twp.
Esther Bodine died intestate in Hunterdon County shortly before 8 March 1800 when an inventory was taken of her estate. Administrator was Abraham Low, of Readington Twp. Fellowbondsman was Nathan Hixson, of Reading Twp. (Both estates, NJ Archives, Series 1, Vol. 38, p. 35)
Ronny is now looking into this Peter Bodine as being the son of John Bodine and Catherine Laboyteaux. That is a very good possibility. Another possibility is that this Peter was the son of the Peter Bodine who was the brother of the John Bodine being considered by Ronny. I would think this Peter would be the son of either John or Peter. It still needs research, though. Here is a message from Ronny on all this:

Subject: Re: Peter Bodine - I found something!!!
Hey Dave,
I drew up a chart to have a better picture of these people. The first Gabriel in the family was the son of John Bodine & Catherine Laboyteaux. Don't you think that Peter (d. 1796) is a more likely candidate to be the same as Peter born in 1736 as the son of John & Catherine, naming his own son Gabriel after his brother, than Peter (born 1738, son of Peter & Agnes) naming his son Gabriel after a first cousin? I mean it is not out of the question entirely, but based upon standard naming practices it seems the best fit. Despite what Sinnott says about Peter (1738) being the ancestor of the Bodines of Flemington and Scranton, but not pursuing them further. Sinnott has not always been correct as everything is based on what she collected form other people. So sometimes third hand information.
I see Peter Bodine, bapt. 11 April 1736, son of John Bodine & Catherine Laboyteaux, as being the same as Peter Bodine of Reading Twp., husband of Esther, and dying 1796, leaving.among others, three sons, John (1770-1853), husband of Esther Mattison, and named after Peter's father; son Peter (1774-1850/60), husband of Mary Smith, and named after Peter himself; and Gabriel (born bef. 1784), no known wife, named after Peter's brother. I will pursue that line of thinking until evidence disproves it. I would like to see some of the original wills myself, like that of Daniel Sebring from 1763 and that of Gabriel LeBoyteuix from 1728. The probate of these early wills was somewhat convoluted, but I think I can access them from our local LDS branch since the films I think they are on are limited to the libraries.

*** End of info from Ronny.
Ronny is probably right, but let's not dismiss his father being the Peter Bodine who married Agnes Constance de Bruyn. He is the father of a Peter Bodine who was baptized on April 16, 1738 at the DRC in New Brunswick, NJ. Sinnott said he is the ancestor of the Bodines of Flemington, NJ and Scranton, PA. However, I have no wife or family for him.
Peter, husband of Agness, is the son of Peter Bodine and Mary Peterson Van Nest. Peter, husband of Mary, is the son of John Bodine and Mary Crocheron. This Peter (husband of Mary Van Nest) is also the brother of the John Bodine who married Catherine Laboyteaux! That means we have connections to names like Gabriel. So Ronny is on the right track, I think, relating the Peter Bodine he mentions above to the family of John Bodine and Catherine Laboyteaux.
For reference, here is a list of Bodines in Hunterdon Co.,, NJ which Ronny Bodine sent me:

Subject: Discoveries
Hey Dave,
... I am presently immersed in the records of Hunterdon County. Originally a part of Burlington County, it broke off in 1714. Morris County was formed from Hunterdon in 1739, Sussex from Morris in 1753 and Warren from Sussex in 1824. So pretty much a family did not have to move to be located in this succession of counties.
I read Book 11 (1767-1773) of the Hunterdon County Court of Pleas and Sessions and picked up Cornelius Bodine in May 1767. He was the first of the name and the one who moved to Loudon County, Virginia in 1771. These minutes are pretty dry and provide little more than people suing each other. So Cornelius was involved in several suits and is last mentioned in Feb 1769, at which point he may have decided that enough was enough, loaded his wagon and headed off to Virginia. This at least confirms again that Cornelius had roots in Hunterdon County, NJ before relocating to Loudoun County, VA.
Peter Bodine appears in October 1770 in a suit. Although there is no indication whether he was from Reading or Amwell, it had to apply to Reading as the Amwell Peter Bodine would have been 14 years old. This is the earliest reference to him, so far, in Hunterdon County when he would have been 34. In a mortgage deed of 2 July 1771, Peter Bodine of Reading Township, yeoman, sold 300 acres to Achsah Lambert, of Nottingham Township, Burlington County.
But more importantly is the following deed which I transcribed partially and almost went blind n the process which names his family in wonderful detail, as he died intestate. Aside from those children we already know of there is also Catherine Bodine (dec'd) wife of Gabriel Tenbroeck and Mary Bodine (dec'd) wife of Derrick Wesselse Tenbroeck. And Daniel Sebron Bodine after whom his nephew, whom we have as Daniel Sehern Bodine, was named.
I am continuing to focus on these records and will incorporate the details in their files and send them to you when I am satisfied there is nothing further to avoid sending updates of updates.

Here is a document Ronny found that I think he said applies either to this Peter Bodine or his son.
From Ronny Bodine:
From Hunterdon County, New Jersey Tax Lists:
PETER BODINE, Reading Township. Tax 1778: 310 acres, 1779: 310 acres, 1780: 310 acres, 1781: 310 acres, 1785: 285 acres, 1789: 284 acres, 1790: 284 acres (next 1802-no).
Peter Bodine died intestate in Hunterdon County shortly before 16 July 1796 when an inventory was taken of his estate. Administrators were Esther Bodine and John Bodine, both of Reading Twp. Fellowbondsmen were Cornelius Wyckoff, of Reading Twp. and Joseph Atkinson of Amwell Twp.
Esther Bodine died intestate in Hunterdon County shortly before 8 March 1800 when an inventory was taken of her estate. Administrator was Abraham Low, of Reading Twp. Fellowbondsman was Nathan Hixson, of Reading Twp. (Both estates, NJ Archives, Series 1, Vol. 38, p. 35)
Peter Bodine is named as the father of Agnes Bodine in her 1853 death record. As she was born in Readington in 1768, the only Peter Bodine living there was this man who appears, as noted, on tax lists there from 1778 to 1790.
Among the correspondence of Mary Elizabeth Sinnot, author of Annals of the Sinnott, Rogers, Coffin, Corlies, Reeves, Bodine and Allied Families (J. P. Lippincott: Philadelphia, 1905) there is a listing of the children of Peter Bodine. The author is Jane L. DeWitt (1849-1928) of 320 Mifflin Ave., Scranton, Pa. It reads:

Ronny spent some time reading one of the Hunterdon County, NJ Common Pleas Court Minute Books which covered 1789--1794.When reading the sessions from February to October 1789, he found this citation of interest:
May 1789: PETER BODINE of Reading town, is licensed as an innkeeper. Securities are David Schamp, Peter Howell and Gattett Van Cleve. This would be Peter 1736-1796.
NOTE: I'm not sure exactly which Peter Bodine Ronny meant by the one "1736-1796," but I'm thinking it might be this one. It could be another since the 1736 birth year does not match what I have for this Peter Bodine.
*****
Ronny read through another year's worth of court minutes--1791. Only one citation turned up. May 1791, PETER BODINE, Readingtown, is licensed to keep a public house or inn. Isaac Farley, John Smith Kunst and Abraham Vanhorn were securities. This would again be Peter 1736-1796, renewing his license for another two years.
