Notes for: Cortland Bodine

From Ronny Bodine:

Cortland Bodine, age 36, enlisted 16 Aug 1862 as a Private at Newburgh, Orange County and was mustered in on 5 Sept 1862 into Company I, 124th Infantry (USA). He was killed 3 May 1863 at the Battle of Chancellorsville, Va. His enlistment records noted he was a horstler by occupation, was born in Orange County, NY.

The Town Clerk's Registers of Men Who Served in the Civil War records the following:
Courtland Bodine, born 1826 in Montgomery, NY, enlisted Aug. 1862 as a Private in Company I, 124th Inf. and was mustered in Sept. 1862. He was paid $50. He was killed at the Battle of Chancellorville May 3d 1863. "Remains buried in Battle Field. Leaves to mourn his loss a widow & two children. Home Montgomery, N.Y." Names of parents: ADAM.

NOTE: Cortland Bodine is placed as a son of Adam Lawrence Bodine because his daughter, Isabelle Wade, was also a defendant in the suit filed by William Clark in Dec. 1896.

1875 (1 June) Montgomery, Orange Co., NY: Adam N. WADE 33 Tin Smith, Isabella 26 wife, Joseph 7 son, Sarah 5 dau, Sarah A. BODINE 46, Agnes BODINE 18 dau. All born in Orange County.

1880 (3 June) Montgomery, Orange Co., NY: Adam N. WADE 38 NY Tin Smith, Belle 31 NY wife, Joseph 12 NY son, Sarah J. 9 NY dau, Susie May 3 mo. NY dau, Sarah A. BODINE 50 NY widowed mother-in-law.

1880 (17 June) Jersey City, Hudson Co., NJ: John JONES 28 NY fireman, Agnes 23 NY wife, Mandy 4 NYdau, Sarrah BODINE 50 NY mother-in-law widowed.

1885 North Bergen, Hudson Co., NJ: John JONES 20-60, Agnes 20-60, Maud 5-20, John 0-4, Sarah BODINE 20-60.

1895 Union Twp., Hudson Co., NJ: Sarah BODINE over 60, Agnes JONES 20-60, Maud 5-20, John 5-20, Mabel 5-20, Harry 5-20.

SUPREME COURT, Orange county---William H. Clark, as executor of the last will and testament of John G. Wilkin, deceased, plaintiff, against....Isabel Wade, Sarah Bodine, Agnes Maud Jones: This seems to name Sarah Bodine, widow of Cortland and her two daughters, Isabel Wade and Agnes Maud Jones.
