Oleta Jo Berdine Pickett passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022. She was born February 27, 1922, in Post, Texas, to Zona and Edward Berdine. She outlived six of her seven brothers and sisters. When Oleta was a young woman she and her family moved to Weatherford where she met her husband, William Dixon Pickett (Dick). After Dick returned from serving in WWII, he and Oleta embarked on a life of travel with their two daughters, Judy and Linda. Dick's Air Force career took them to several states, including New Mexico, Louisiana and California, as well as to Morocco and Canada. When Dick retired in 1964, they returned to Weatherford, where they had an active social life with friends and family. Oleta was a strong, independent woman who had to cope with the loss of her husband in 1989 and of her youngest daughter Linda in 2009. She was a member of South Main Church of Christ and attended services regularly during the more than fifty years she lived in Weatherford. In 2014, at age 92, Oleta moved to Westmore Senior/Assisted Living in Fort Worth to be near her eldest daughter Judy, who managed her care until her death. The staff and residents at Westmore loved and cherished her, as did everyone who knew her. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Gil Rye, sister and brother-in-law Zona and Charles Browder, grandchildren Dale Rye, Steve Rye, Wendy Patterson and Angela Tintaya, along with their respective families. Her great-grandchildren loved her and visited her as frequently as possible. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Oleta will live on in our memories as an elegant and beautiful, yet humble, woman who earned the love and respect of all. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 28, 2022, at South Main Church of Christ, 201 South Main Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086. Following the service, a procession will make its way to East Greenwood Cemetery for burial. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086.
