Notes for: Rebecca Bodine

From Ronny Bodine (Oct. 30, 2020):

NICHOLAS HOSNER was married twice, a fact not otherwise evident in census records. In 1850, there was one Nicholas Hosner recorded living in Oakland County, Michigan and he was married to Rebecca. The oldest child was a son, Sylvester, aged 9, inplying the couple was married about 1840. On 17 Oct 1842, a deed was enacted between Nicholas Hosner and his wife PHEBE of Oakland County to Filu Frost. The deed was recorded 29 Oct 1842 (Oakland Co. Deeds, 23: 3). A second deed, dated 28 March 1845, was enacted by Nicholas Hosner and his wife PHEBE, of Oakland County. Phebe verified her acknowledgement on 21 Feb 1846 and the deed was recorded 4 June 1846 (Oakland Co. Deeds, 30: 424) By June 1850, Nicholas was married to REBECCA, with whom he enacted a deed on 1 May 1851, recorded as Nicholas Hosner of Oakland Township, Oakland County and his wife Rebecca Hosner, to Jesse M. Mason of Attica Township, Lapeer County, $1185 for 8 acres of the East one-half of the 9th Quarter of Section 12, Township 4 North, Range 11 East. Recorded 29 Nov 1852. (Oakland Co. Deeds, 46: 296). Thus it is clear that Nicholas Hosner was first married to Phebe who died between 21 Feb 1846 and perhaps before May 1848 and was the mother of Sylvester, Elizabeth and George and that Rebecca was the mother of Lorenzo, who according to his 1913 MI death certificate, was born 10 Feb 1849 and named his parents Nicholas Hosner and Rebea. Bodin or Bodine, the only one of the children who named their mother as a Bodine, whereas the informants for most others were unable to name the mother. Although Nicholas lived in Oakland County, the marriage is not a matter of record there and remains undocumented at this time.
