Subject: Adam Case, Sr. (and Elizabeth Deats ) - Adam Case, Jr. (and Elizabeth Opdycke)
Greetings Dave and Ronnie - I have tried to put this in better order and wait to hear from you...
From months of research and many records I would suggest the following:
Adam Case Senior born around 1745-1791 - married Elizabeth Giestworth/Deats, 1744-1820.
Their oldest son was William Case, born August 11, 1768 - he was Adam Case Jr.s older brother.
Their next child Adam Case, Jr. was born August 13, 1770 in Kingwood Twp. Huntington, NJ -
who married Anna Bodine b. 1778 and married her in 1795 in Hunterton County, NJ
(Resource Descendants of Joseph Benjamin Klass and Dave Bodine)
Their other children were Joseph Case b. April 14, 1772; Mary Case b. October 21, 1774; Anna Case b. March 17, 1777; Philip Case b. December 12, 1782; Rebecca Case b. October 12, 1783; Catherine Case b. July 3, 1786; Isaac Case b. Dec. 27, 1789
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adam Case, Jr. then married again. He married Elizabeth Opdycke in 1798.
(several Resources: The Godown Family and Old Records Nj Phylis B. D'Autrechy (1979) page 108, Kingwood Baptist Church Marriage Records Rev. Garner Hunt)
This couple is listed as parents of the following children (which includes William 1797)
William 1797; Mahlon 1799; Sybilla 1800; Hester 1802; Jonathan Aug. 15, 1804; Jacob 1806; Sarah 1808; Nathan 1810; Christian 1812; Rebecca 1813; Milton 1815; and Susanna 1817.
(Resource Hoff/Huffs Data Page)
(These are the same children listed as Anna Bodine's children) (Since I am a direct descendant of a Jonathan Case born in 1804, referred to in the descendants of Joseph Benjamin Klass, I need to find the correct Jonathan Case... With that, I continue to share what I have discovered.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the same time - in history:
William Case (Adam Case Jr. older brother) married Rachel Evans
Elizabeth Case b. May 10, 1796 (which could be the Elizabeth attributed to Anna Case)
Sarah Case b. Dec. 11, 1797 (Cherryville, NJ) d. January 24, 1887.
Mary Case b. October 28, 1799, d. after 1880
Ruth Case b. Febraurary 25, 1801
Jonathan Case b. February 9, 1804
Rebecca Case b. August 25, 1808 d. March 19, 1828
Ann Case b. May 9, 1810
David Case b. Feb. 3, 1812 d. Mrch 9, 1894 in Quakertown, NJ
William Case b. December 10, 1814 d. Nov. 8, 1892 in Everittstown, NJ
Mathilda Case b. September 3, 1816, d. December 17, 1899 in Flemington, NJ
Joseph Case b. March 27, 1818 d. Sept. 19, 1862 in Trenton, Mercer, NJ
Asa Case b. April 14, 1821 d. March 20, 1904 in Franklin Twp. NJ
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I do not know WHICH Jonathan Case is my direct ancestor - he is either the son of Elizabeth Opdycke (which I am inclined to believe) or the son of Rachel Evans, who seems to be the mother-in-law of the Jonathan Case who married Rebecca Marshall and never left NJ.
This Jonathan b. Feb 9, 1804, and his wife Rebecca Marshall had the following children:
Susanna b. 1831, James W. b. 1832 and William b. 1836....Rachel Evans Case was living with her older son (Jonathan) and his family when she was a widow at the age of 76 - reported in the 1850 Census.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have consistent records of a Jonathan Case born in 1804 in either NJ or PA most records say PA - who married an "Anna Fox" and is listed only as married to a "Maria" in Census records over the years....it is in these records that I found my second great grandmother, Harriet Sybilla Case...whose daughter Flora G. Davis was my great-grandmother, whose daughter Katherine Zugenbuhler was my grandmother....who was completely lost to us for 80 years, buried in an unmarked grave in Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche, Iowa.
Looking for her and finding her has been the joy of my life - she died at 38 and was not remembered by her children or ever known by her grandchildren - we are ten living cousins in our late 70's and were able to place a marker on her grave this past May 2010 on Mother's Day.
My one missing link is which Jonathan Case was her great-grandfather and the history of her great-grandmother "Anna Fox" and or a "Maria".....we know his children were all born in Pennsylvania and that they lived in Roscoe, Winnebago, Illinois in 1850/1860 and in Waverly Iowa in 1870 - and that he was widowed in 1880 living with my great-great grandmother, Harriet Case Davis Westgate in DeKalb, Illinois and that the Westgate family then moved to Camanche, Iowa.
I hope you will look at the records I have found as they will change the information in the Dave Bodine and Elijah Cleaver files and add information to the Marfy Goodspeed files - concerning the Case family ancestors and descendants.
Seems having two Adam Case persons, and two Elizabeths (Deats and Opdycke) and two Jonathan Case persons (first cousins) born in the same year is the reason for the misinformation.
Thank you for helping me with this.
Kathleen Cullen Todora, daughter of Irene Elizabeth Elliott Cullen whose mother was Katherine Zugenbuhler - daughter of Flora Davis who was the daughter of Harriet Case/Davis/Westgate whose father was Jonathan Case born in New Jersey in 1804....
