G. Shirley Pierce died 11 July 1957 in Fort Lewis, Pierce County, aged 43.

Cassie Berdine Pierce, 84, of Yelm, died Feb. 13, 1996. Cassie was born in Riverton, NE and had lived in the area for the last 57 years. She was a teacher in the Yelm School District for over 30 years teaching over 1000 children to read. Mrs. Pierce was an active member of Yelm United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. Cassie enjoyed crafts, gardening and traveling all her life. At the age of 78 she taught English in China. She is survived by her children, Joan (Ted) Cook, Sumner, Muriel Pierce, Kirkland, John (Ardith) Pierce, Pullman; sister, Janevieve Abbott, CA; 5 grandchildren of Boston, Providence, Durham, NH, Minneapolis and Tacoma. Family graveside services Sat., 10 a.m. at Sumner City Cemetery followed by a memorial service at Yelm United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Gifts may be made to the Cassie B. Pierce Memorial Scholarship Fund at Yelm United Methodist Church. Dryer Mortuary in charge.
