Arthur Daniel Carroll applied for a SSN in Dec 1936 and reported he was born 26 Dec 1915 in Lead, Lawrence Co., SD. He died 13 Sept 1988. His last residence was Black Hawk, Meade Co., SD.

Services for Arthur D. Carroll, 72, Black Hawk, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Behrens Mortuary, with the Rev. S. A. Walker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery at Black Hawk. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to service time Friday. A memorial has been established. Carroll died Tuesday at West Hills Village Health Care Center. He was born Dec. 26, 1915, at Lead to Daniel and Anna Carroll. As a child he lived in several towns in western South Dakota. In 1933 he graduated from Rapid City High School and in 1937 married Estelle Burdine at San Diego. He was employed by Bell Aircraft Co. in California, at Omaha, Neb., and at Buffalo, N.Y. He also worked at Martin-Marietta at Marietta, Ga., and in 1947 returned to Rapid City. On Dec. 15, 1950, he married Edith Prestjohn in Rapid City. They lived at Black Hawk since 1950. In 1979, he retired from Midwestern Homes. Survivors include his wife, Edith of Black Hawk; two sons, Craig of Sacramento, Calif., and Dan of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; two daughters, Judy Mosely of Alta Loma, Calif., and Janet Kroeze of Knoxville, Tenn.; two step-daughters, Pat Schoonover of St. Paul, Minn., and Leslie Hall of Black Hawk; 10 grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Canfield of Rapid City. He was preceded in death by a daughter.

Correction. The obituary published Thursday for Arthur D. Carroll, 72, Black Hawk, had two errors, and two things were omitted. officiating at services at 2 p.m. Friday at Behrens Mortuary will be the Rev. S. A. Belcher. Carroll's mother's name is Anna (Francisco) Carroll. And among survivors is a stepdaughter, Leslie Walls of Black Hawk; two nephews and three nieces.

Estella L. Cooley, 90, of Ontario died Nov. 10, 2002 at Plott Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 7, 1912 in South Dakota and was a resident of Rancho Cucamonga, Upland and Ontario for over 25 years. Stella enjoyed her career in nursing. She recieved her RN at St. John's Nursing Hospital in Rapids City, S.D. By marriage, Stell became a member of the Carroll and Canfield Clan. She worked as an RN in San Diego while completing her Public Health degree. Her car trunk was always full of clothing and food for others. After retiring from Public Health nursing, she dedicated many years of her life to teaching LVN's and CNA's. Mrs. Cooley loved her students! She never missed church. Stella enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards and bingo. Family, friend s and nursing was her life. To her last days she still critiqued any nursing she experienced. She is survived by her son, Craig Carroll of Hemet; daughters, Judith Pipersky of Rancho Cucamonga, Kathleen Franks of Upland; sister, Joanne Robinson of Bullhead City, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her brother, Lester Berdine. Stella is also survived by, 9 grandchildren, Dennis, Brian and Mike Carroll of Montana, Ben Asquith of Kansas, Chris Asquith of California, Nathan Asquith of New York, Anna Seyesa r of Kentucky, Marisa Thompson of Virginia, Andrea Hester of Kentucky; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-granchildren; 8 nieces and nephews. As Mrs. Cooley requested, her body was donated to UCS, Los Angeles Medical Center to contribue to the teaching of medical students.
