Obituary, The Daily Home News (New Brunswick, NJ) of Monday, 10 April 1933.
Isaac T. Berdine, for thirty-one years sexton of Christ Episcopal Church and who was affectionately known as "Cap" Berdine to Christ Church members, passed away suddenly at his home, 292 Sandford street of paralysis on Thursday. Mr. Berdine, who was nearly eighty-two years of age, was born on May 6, 1851, at Berdine's Corner. Mr. Berdine's ancestors were French Huguenots who came to America and settled in this vicinity and gave their name to Berdine's Corner early in the eighteenth century. Mr. Berdine is survived by one daughter, Miss Leona Berdine.
The funeral will be held from his late home, 292 Sandford street, tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Jasper S. Hogan of the First Reformed Church of which church Mr. Berdine had long been a member, assisted by Rev. Walter H. Stowe of Christ Episcopal Church, the church he had so faithfully served. Interment will be in Van Liew Cemetery, under the direction of Undertaker W. H. Quackenboss and Son. Mr. Berdine in his youth served the late McRae Swift family of George street as coachman. On February 1, 1899, he went to work at Christ Church as sexton. [Portion omitted that deals with church history.] Mr. Berdine had been able to get about and was out on Thursday the day he was stricken with paralysis. Mr. Berdine had many friends in both the First Reformed Church and Christ Church.
Burials in Van Liew Cemetery, New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey.
