JIM BODINE Jim Bodine of Kansas City, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017. Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Rd., KCMO, with visitation and Rosary prior from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The family suggests contributions to www.Bishopsullivan.org Jim was born in Kansas City, KS on Nov. 28, 1932 to Katherine and Jesse Bodine. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and later graduated from Pittsburg Teachers College. Jim married Rita Effertz on Aug. 10, 1957. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Rita; six children: Cindi, Tim, Ron, Sharon, Mary and Barb; 14 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. Other survivors include his sisters: Alice Strieby and Louise Fleetwood. He was preceded in death by sister, Agnes, and two brothers: Richard and Ralph. Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Rita Barbara Bodine (Knoxville, Iowa), who passed away at the age of 87, on February 19, 2020. Rosary and Visitation will be Saturday, February 22, at 1:00 pm with a Memorial Mass to follow at 2:00 pm at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Kansas City, MO. Rita was born on May 3, 1932. She grew up running around on her family farm in KCMO with her seven siblings. She married Jim Bodine on August 10, 1957 at St. Catherine's Church in Grandview, MO. They were blessed with six children. Rita was a dedicated mother, wife and servant of The Lord. She and Jim moved from KC in 1967 to Waterloo, IA. They also lived in Knoxville, IA, Maryville, MO and St. Charles, MO before returning to Kansas City in 1985 to be closer to her family and long-time friends. Rita enjoyed large family gatherings and her St. Thomas More friends. Her hobbies included sewing, dancing, and loving on her 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Cindi (Mike), Tim (Julie), Ron (JoAnn), Sharon (Jeff), Mary, and Barb (Jeff); and by her siblings: John (Julie), Joe, Jimmy (Cheri), Mickey (Donna), and Monica (Tom). She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Jim, and three siblings, Rosie, Edmund, and Tom. Mom, we love you for your faith, kindness and loving heart.
