Graveside services for Mrs. Anna M. Bodine, 71, of 3040 Paseo del Refugio, Santa Barbara, a former long-time resident of Buellton, were conducted Monday afternoon at Oak Hill Cemetery in Ballard with the Rev. Lawrence E. Fisher, minister of the First Presbyterian Church, Santa Barbara, officiating. Mrs. Bodine died Saturday morning in a Santa Barbara Hospital where she had been a patient for three weeks. Mrs. Bodine had been in ill health the past two weeks. She came to Buellton in 1921 with her husband, the late Albert G. Bodine, Sr., from Pittsburg, Pa. Mr. Bodine died in 1954. The following year, Mrs. Bodine moved from Buellton to Santa Barbara. Her late husband constructed the grocery store building now housing the Buellton Market at the corner of Highways 150 and 101 in 1921. In that year, Mr. Bodine and his brother-in-law, the late William Budd, Buellton's first postmaster, formed a partnership, with Mr. Budd moving his stock from a store across the street and south of what is now Anderson's Pea Soup Restaurant to the Bodine Building. From 1921 to 1941 the store, which also housed the post office, was known as Budd and Bodine's. The partnership was dissolved in 1941, with Budd moving the post office to a small frame building which now contains the Buellton Gift Shop. The grocery store then became known as Bodine's until 1953 when it was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. William FitzGerald. The store was purchased by the present owners, E. Thaine (Eddie) Andersen and Bob Mathiasen last August. Mrs. Bodine was a member of the Women's Home Department of the Santa Barbara County Farm Bureau, the Santa Barbara Women's Club, the Little Gardens Club, the Museum of Natural History and the Republican Women's Club. She leaves a son, Albert G. Bodine, Jr., of Sherman Oaks; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Carroll of Santa Barbara and Mrs. John C. Wilson of West Los Angeles; three grandchildren, Linda and John Bodine and Robert Carroll, and a great-grandchild.
