Notes for: Henry Wycliffe
This family comes from An History of Richmondshire, in the North Riding of the County of York; together with those parts of the Everwicschire of Domesday which form The Wapentakes of Lonsdale, Ewecross, and Amunderness, in the Counties of York, Lancaster, and Westmoreland, by Thomas Dunham WHITAKER. London: Longman, Hurst, Rees (and others), 1823. 2 volumes. Here is the info given there on this family:
Henry Wycliffe, married, and was living without issue 1575.
And here is additional information from The Genealogist (New Series), H. W. Forsyth Harwood, v. xxi. George Bell & Sons: London, 1905, pp. 95-99:
Henry, of Kirkby Fleetham. Will April 19th, 25th year of Elizabeth (1583) (Raine). Married Margaret _____.
She was named as Joan (Jackson) Wycliffe's sister-in-law in Joan's will. Her name there was written "Merjorie Wykeelyffe." It did not say that she was the wife of Henry Wycliffe, but I am assuming this Margaret to be that one. A note in this will from The Publications of the Surtees Society, v. 26 (1853), p. 160 says that Henry in his will of April 19, 1583 bequeathed to Christopher Wycliffe "his base son, the land he purchased in Crosbiecote" and he also mentions his wife Margaret, his brother Christopher and his brother-in-law John Thompson.
