In June 1900, William and Maude Laing lived in the home of Maude's maternal grandmother, Eliza McCurdy, in Waterloo, Seneca County, New York. William, a day laborer, reported that in 7 years of marriage his wife had borne no children. In April 1910, William and Maude Laing still lived in Waterloo and had no children. In Jan 1920, Maude Laing was a widow living in Waterloo.

Waterloo, Aug. 29---Last night at 9 o'clock occurred the death of William B. Laing of angina pectoris following an illness of several years. Mr. Laing had been employed by Charles Genung for more than 20 years as assistant undertaker and embalmer having been a licensed embalmer since the state law requiring embalmers to have a license went into effect, since fifteen years ago. He was a member of Delphian Lodge I.O.O.F. and a Past Noble Grand of that order which will attend the funeral as bearers and escort and conduct the service at the grave. He was also a member of the Hook and Ladder Fire Patrol company of the Waterloo fire department. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock from St. Paul's church, the Rev. J. Beach Arthur officiating. Interment in Maple Grove. The only surviving relative of the immediate family is his wife.
