1st marriage--1942--WILLIAM LEROY CHAFFEE.
On 16 Oct 1940, William LeRoy Chaffee of Olean, New York registered for the World War II Draft. He reported he was born14 April 1918 in Kane, Pennsylvania, worked for the Ideal Cab Co., and named his father, Mr. Clifford Dewitt Chaffee, as his next of kin.
The 1944 city directory of DeBois, Pennsylvania lists William L. & Vera C. Chaffee. She is listed as "Mrs. Vera C. Chaffee" in the directories of 1946 and 1948, but her husband is not named.

OLEAN - William L. Chaffee, 96 of Olean, died Tuesday (March 3, 2015) at the Buffalo Veteran's Hospital after a short battle with cancer. "Roy" Chaffee was born April 14, 1918, in Kane, Pa., a son of Clifford D. and Ariel Smiley Chaffee. He was a proud veteran and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Over the years, he worked for Olean Brick Yard, Lewis Trucking Co., Richards Motor Freight, Coca-Cola, Houghton Hysol Laboratories, Hoser Fire Equipment Co. and Inch of Gold. He also worked out of his home on small engine repair and sharpening tools. He is survived by his children, Daryl Chaffee of Kissimmee, Fla., William (Chili) Chaffee of Dallas, Andrea Morgan of Louisville, Ky., Patricia Fox of Olean, Ronald Chaffee of Cornelius, Ore., Vanessa Tupper of Cuba, Robert Chaffee of Olean, Michael Chaffee of Olean, Susan Wojtani of Olean and Karen Materna of Olean; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters, Shirley Haggerty of Olean and Romaine Hamlin of New Hampshire; his dear brother, Richard C. Chaffee of Olean; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Estelle Chaffee, the mother of his children, in 1989; a brother, Merton D. Chaffee of Olean; and three sisters, Eloise Sandy of Olean, Jane Eddy of Florida and Betty Metler of Tonawanda.
Son Daryle Leroy Chaffee was born 11 Aug 1943 and died 24 May 2019. He is named as Vera's son in her obituary. His obituary reads "Daryle "Dirk" Leroy Chaffee, 75 of DeBary, Florida passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019. He was born on August 11, 1943 in Du Bois, Pennsylvania to William Leroy Chaffee and Constance Vera Bodine."
