WARNER - The Rev. Dr. J. Jermain Bodine, 69, died peacefully Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Since 2001, Dr. Bodine has served as pastor at the United Church of Warner. He was a patient and loving servant of God, sure in his faith. The topic of Islam and Christian-Muslim relations was a lifelong passion for him. He believed strongly in social justice, equality and the value of education. He was born Jan. 21, 1941, in Jamestown, N.Y., to Josephine Bodine. He graduated from St. John's College in Annapolis, Md., and earned his Ph.D. from the Hartford Seminary Foundation in 1967. In 1979, he began full-time service as a pastor in the United Church of Christ and served in congregations in Connecticut and the New Hampshire communities of Henniker, Stratham and Warner. Dr. Bodine is survived by his wife, Wilhelmina T. Bodine; and his daughters, Melissa H. Tobey and her husband, Mark J. Tobey, and Courtney J. Bodine and her fiance, John R. Harvey. A celebration service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Warner. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Church of Warner or the Jim Mitchell Community Park in Warner.
