Charles A. Bodine, 81 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Mich., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at 2:35 p.m. in Magnumcare of Monroe. Born July 8, 1933 in Monroe, Charles was the son of the late John and Muriel (James) Bodine. Charles was a 1951 graduate of Monroe High School. Charles served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War. On Dec. 22, 1951, Charles married his beloved wife, the former Shirley A. Pitcher, at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe. Charles was employed by Ford Motor Company working at the Livonia Plant for 30 years, until his retirement in 1985. Charles enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Florida, watching NASCAR and tending to his Ford pickup truck. More than anything, Charles enjoyed time spent with family. Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Shirley; six loving children: Patricia A. Bodine of Florida, Charles L. (Denise) Bodine of Monroe, Ronald E. (Virginia) Bodine of Newport, James R. Bodine of Newport, Jean A. (Jerry) Dozier of Monroe, and Sherry "Coke" (Randy) Winkelman of Ida, Mich.; 11 cherished grandchildren: Darrell Bodine, Brandy Eulette, Carly Mullins, Lindsay (Johnnie) Smallwood, James Bodine, April (Shawn) Boucke', Jeremy (Nicole Micheau) Dozier, Eric Gerson, Billy Gerson, Kyle Winkelman, and Missy (William) Mata, and 13 treasured great-grandchildren: Hailey, Michael, Gabriel, Cody, Michael, Nick, Charlie, Alana, Abigail, Jeremy, Cheyene, Zander, and Maddie. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a son, Anthony R. Bodine; a daughter, Jane Ella Bodine - Gerson; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Bodine; two brothers, John and Harold, and two sisters, Beulah Sweet, and Joann VanFleet. Visitation will be held 3-8 p.m. today in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161, where funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2015. The VFW Post 1138 will begin with military honors, followed by funeral services with the Rev. Rick Massingill officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association. Shirley A. Bodine, age 85, of Monroe, went home to be with the Lord at 1:34 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2021, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. She had been in poor health for many years. Born on December 10, 1935, in Monroe, Shirley was the daughter of the late Lynn and Doris Pauline (Ramsey) Pitcher. She attended Monroe Public Schools and married her beloved husband, Charles A. Bodine, on December 22, 1951, at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. Sadly, Charles preceded her in death on January 20, 2015. Shirley enjoyed traveling to all 50 states with her husband, spending their winters in Florida, and time with her family. Shirley is survived by six loving children: Patricia Bodine of Florida, Charles (Denise) Bodine of Hillsdale, Ronald (Virginia) Bodine of Newport, James Bodine of Newport, Jean (Jerry) Dozier of Monroe, and Sherry "Coke" (Randy) Winkelman of Ida; 13 cherished grandchildren: Darrell Bodine, Brandy (Terry) Eulette, Carly Mullins, Lindsay (Johnnie) Smallwood, James Bodine, April (Shawn) Boucke, Jeremy Dozier, Eric Gerson, Billy Gerson, Kyle (Allie) Winkelman, Missy (William) Mata, Dawn McBee, and David (Holly) Kaschynyc; 21 treasured great-grandchildren: Hailey, Michael, Gabriel, Cody, Michael, Nick, Charlie, Alana, Abigail, Jeremy, Cheyene, Maddie, Zander, Raif, Sloan, Drake, Paislee, Rockwell, Ivy, Dawson, and Jada. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was also preceded in death by a son, Anthony Bodine; daughter, Jane Ella Bodine-Gerson; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Bodine. Family and friends may visit from 10 a.m. until time of funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12th, at Bacarella Funeral Home. Rev. Rick Massingill, pastor of North Monroe Street Church of God, will officiate followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Park.
