Notes for: Thomas Bernard Bodine

Thomas Bodine wrote the following:

I grew up on a farm where we raised most everything we needed. Life was hard but we got by. Walked to school part of the time. Buses started and cost a nickel to ride. Finished Grassy Jr. High 1940. Went to High school at Arab. Served a while in the navy and got a medical discharge. Completed high school. Got married and worked odd jobs. Farmed. Went to California and worked in the lumber business. Came home and went to work at Redstone Arsenal as a programmer. Retired at this job June 1, 1984. Operated on for cancer in 1991. Thanks to God for letting me live longer. My wife and I undertook a new task of getting a home built in the spring of 1996. We gave the old home to our son, Keith, and wife, Debra Spray Bodine. They presented us with a new granddaughter and needed a home. The neighbors and our children built our home. It was nearly all free labor for which we are very thankful. Some of our friends spent quite a few hours working out of love and respect for us. I got a longing to research my family's name and it has led me on a chase that has engulfed me, sometimes overwhelming me. The thrill of meeting family members was enjoyed even when some of them would let you know they were not interested in family lore. I have really enjoyed it.
