Notes for: Clara Agnes Pesnell

Clara was widowed after nineteen years of marriage. She had five children to raise by herself. Thomas Bodine says, "We farmed. Daddy got a small compensation check from the VA which got us by. A mortgage was on the farm that had to be retired. Mother had a very good voice for singing which she used in church. She came from a large family, the daughter of a Methodist minister. She was a very good cook and knew how to make do with what we had."
