Notes for: Cliston Vonzell Bodine, Sr.
Cliston was raised on a farm four miles east of Arab. He was educated in the public schools at Brashier's Chaper and Grassy. He went to Arab High then he attended Auburn University. He worked during school to help pay his way to become a doctor of veterinary medicine. He had a local practice, but later went to work with the Department of Agriculture in the broiler industry.

BODINE--Dr. Cliston V., Sr., of Hixson, died Monday in a local hospital. A member of Central Baptist Church of Hixson, he was a graduate of Auburn University. He retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where for 24 years he was a meat and poultry inspector. Survivors include his wife, Sara Martin Bodine, Hixson; two sons, Cliston V. Bodine, Jr., Herndon, Va., and Paul M. Bodine, Powder Springs, Ga.; brother, Felton Bodine, Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Earline Bodine, Guntersville, Ala.; three grandchildren, Ashley Kaye, Stephen and C. V. Bodine III. Arrangements will be announced by Chattanooga Guardian Chapel, North.

Sara Martin Bodine, 85, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007. Sara was a native of Scottsboro, Ala., and a longtime resident of the Hixson area. She was a former member of Central Baptist Church of Hixson and currently a member of Stuart Heights Baptist Church. Sara was the past president of the Seqyoyah Women's Club and the Cosmos Club of Chattanooga. She was a 50-year member of the Amanda King Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Arab, Ala. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Cliston V. Bodine, Sr.; her son, Jerry Lee Bodine; parents, Frank and Maude Martin; sisters, Lorraine Martin and Hazel Berry; brothers, Edward and Kendall Martin. Sara is survived by her two sons, C.V. (Kathleen) Bodine Jr. and Paul Michael (Cathy) Bodine; five grandchildren, C.V. "Doc" Bodine III, Ashlie K. (Jerome) Salvaggio, Stephen, Robert and Michael Bodine; two great-grandchildren, Miles and Ripley Salvaggio; two brothers, Billy (Ruby) Martin and Jack (Kathy) Martin; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. EDT on Tuesday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Darrel Davenport officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. EDT on Tuesday in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Scottsboro, Ala. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. EDT today and 10 to 11:30 a.m. EDT on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Library Fund at Stuart Heights Baptist Church. Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
