Notes for: William ("Willie") Henry Franklin Bodine
He was a farmer who raised vegetables along with corn and cotton. He used this to finance his children's education. He had an operation that cooked, canned and sealed tomatoes on his farm. Local labor was used for this operation. He sold the produce and Fort McClellan and other places throughout Alabama. Labor cost about a dollar a day per person. He raised his plants in a hot bed that was fueld by wood. They started in February of each year. They also had to draw water from a well to water the plants.
