Notes for: William ("Bill") Wallace Bodine

It looks like this William is the son of Laforest John Bodine and his wife Minnie June. William reported at the time of this marriage that his parents were Jack and Minnie Bodine June. Laforest John could very well have been known as "Jack" since that is a common nickname for John. And I had Laforest's wife's name as Minnie.

Ronny Bodine later confirmed this from the 1900 Census of Tyler Co., WV. That 1900 Census reported John and Minnie's children as G. R., W. W. and J.L. Jr. (all born PA), and the youngest, Gertrude, born in West Virginia.

From her obit on Find A Grave:

Patricia Ann Gillett went to her heavenly home on Aug. 14th, 2018. Pat was born in Guthrie, OK on May 28, 1932 to William (Bill) and Mabel (Davis) Bodine. Pat grew up in Coyle, OK. She was a beautiful girl who excelled in school and supported the Bluejackets as a cheerleader. Pat had various occupations throughout her life including managing the family's gas station and motel, but the occupation she enjoyed the most was taking care of children during her time at FCC Mother's Day Out. Age knew no bounds with Pat as she worked well up into her late 70's with more energy and joy than many of her young coworkers. The words, "I can't", were not something found in her vocabulary. She always amazed friends and family alike.

Pat loved her Guthrie Gospel Chapel Church family and was always first in line to help with baking cookies and goodies for Vacation Bible School and any other event that her Church had planned. She loved holding Bible studies in her home and always had an open door for anyone and everyone who would like to come. Early on in her life it was obvious the Lord blessed her with a servant's heart...caring, loving, and always extending a helping hand when needed. Pat always put everyone else's needs before her own. She WAS the Ultimate Caregiver!!!

The Lord blessed Pat with three beautiful children: Sharon, Ron, and Jana Gillett all of Guthrie. Jana was born with an irreversible heart defect with the grim prognosis of not surviving to see her first birthday. The doctors, on many accounts throughout Jana's life, had proclaimed that the only reason Jana had survived and lived a full life was by the grace of God and the miraculous care given by her mother Pat. Jana was blessed with 45 years.

Pat devoted her entire life to serving others. In every phase of her life, in every job she worked, and for anyone she could, she was a caregiver. She loved the Lord with all her heart and HIS presence was easily felt while in hers. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Roy Dangerfield, husband Gene Gillett, daughter Jana Gillett, granddaughter, Tracy Canning, and great-granddaughter Jacksyn Hamilton.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon Chandler, her son and daughter-in-law Ron and Rhonda Gillett, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and countless close friends she considered family, as well. She was loved and adored by all and will be missed tremendously.

Pat Gillett's wishes are to be surrounded by her loved ones during a humble graveside service conducted on Saturday, Aug. 18th officiated by minister and close family member Marty Garvey. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.

Our family extends their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all the caregivers who helped Pat during her final days here on earth with us, especially the staff at OU Medical Center in Edmond, whose compassionate care is unparalleled.

There will be no visitation at Pat's request.

From Ronny Bodine:

1st marriage--1909--ESSIE VERLE VANATTA.
On 17 Aug 1909 in Knox County, Indiana William Bodine applied for a marriage license. He reported he was born 2 Dec 1877 in Sisterville, West Virginia to Jack Bodine, a telegraph operator, and Minnie June of Sumner (Lawrence Co.), Illinois. His parents were both born in Duke Center (McKean Co.), Pennsylvania. Essie Vanatta reported she was born 27 Feb 1890 in Sumner, Illinois to Freemont and Sarah (Piper) Vanatta. Both parties noted it was their 1st marriage. In April 1910, William and Essie Bodine lived in Sumner, Lawrence County, Illinois where William reported he and Essie had been married but one year and that he was employed as a tool dresser in an oil field. He gave his age as 18 and that of Essie as 19. On 5 June 1917, William W. Bodine registered for the World War 1 draft in Garvin County, Oklahoma. He reported he was born 26 June 1891 in Sisterville, West Virginia, was married with 2 children, and worked as a well driller. In 1920, William W. Bodine lived with his family in Jordan Valley, Pawnee County, Oklahoma where he was employed as an oil well driller. He now reported his age as 28 as also that of his wife and that both were born in Illinois. In April 1930, William W. Bodine, age 38, was a prisoner in the Federal Jail in Muskogee, Muskogee County, Oklahoma. Thereafter, William Bodine disappears.

In April 1940, Essie Bodine claimed to be a widow rather than report she was divorced, apparently during the time William was incarcerated..

It is difficult to reconcile his birth date of 2 Dec 1877 at the time he applied for his marriage license and 26 June 1891 when he registered for the World War 1 draft. His ages of 18 in 1910 and 28 in 1920 seem to coincide with his birth in 1891. In June 1900, Essie M. Vanatta was living with her mother and siblings in Christy Township, Lawrence County, Illinois. Her mother reported that Essie was born Feb 1891. In her marriage license application her birth was noted as 27 Feb 1890. At the time her death was reported to the Social Security Administration her birth was given as 27 Feb 1891. Essie's sister was Carrie Mae Vanatta (1894-1980) wife 1st of Richard Oliver Bodine (1879-1933) and then of George Gregory.
