BLOOMINGTON - Valerie L. Bridson, 65, of Bloomington, passed away at 1:20 a.m. Monday (Nov. 24, 2014) at Heartland Health Care, Normal. Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. The Rev. Jason Collins will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the memorial home. Private inurnment will be at a later date. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to Illinois State University Children of Civil Service Scholarship Fund. Valerie was born Oct. 21, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Edward and Lois McDonald Bodine. She married Randy G. Bridson on March 4, 1972, in Hopkins, Minn. He survives. Also surviving are one sister, Deveny (Jim) Ahlvers, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; mother-in-law, Guyneth Bridson, Brimfield; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ted Bodine. Valerie attended Mankato State University, Mankato, Minn. Valerie worked at Illinois State University, Normal, at the Lauby Teacher Education Center, where she assisted in placing special education majors into student teacher assignments from 2001 to 2013. She received the Distinguished Service Award from ISU in 2011. She had worked at State Farm Insurance Cos. and Kohl's Department Store. Valerie participated in the annual Bloomington High School craft sale for many years.
