From Monroe County, Missouri Marriage Records:
John M. Bodine AND Miss Martha M. Burks were married 23 Jan 1868 by Alfred Wilson, Preacher of the Gospel.
In 1860, John M. Bodine, a farmer, age 19 and single, lived in Jackson Township, Monroe County. From 1863 to 1864 he served as a Private in Company A, Missouri Volunteers. In 1900, John Bodine, a farmer of Monroe County, reported that in 35 years of marriage his wife had borne 8 children of whom 6 were then living and of that number 5 were living with them. In April 1910, as residents of Paris, Monroe County, John now reported that 4 of his 8 children were living and 3 were then living with them. The Missouri death certificates (no. 1911-32076) John Bodine and Margaret Burks Bodine (no. 1930-16809) reported both were buried in Salem Church Cemetery, Paris, Monroe County. Margaret was the daughter of William and Eliza (Roach) Burks.
Obituary, Shelbina (MO) Democrat of Wed., 20 Sept 1911.
John Mart Bodine died at his home n Paris at 2 o'clock Saturday morning. Although he had been hopelessly ill for three years, the end came unexpectedly to most of the community. The funeral services were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon, following which the body was taken to Salem for burial. Mr. Bodine was 72 years old. Until he removed to Paris some years ago, he was one of the county's leading farmers and stockmen and amassed considerable wealth on his fine 400-acre place north of town. He was a gentleman of the old school and a citizen whose judgment was respected by all who knew him. An indulgent husband and father, his affection for his family was repaid by as [sic-his] tireless devotion and patient ministration during the long, weary months of his illness as any man ever received. His wife, one daughter and three sons survive him.
