John Thomas Calfas, 69, of Independence, MO, passed away Friday, December 13, 2002, at Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 19th at Speaks Suburban Chapel with interment in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the chapel. John was born April 23, 1933, in Thesseloniki, Greece, and moved to the U.S. in 1952. He received his Citizenship in 1965. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army, honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He had retired from Burns and McDonnell in 1996, after 31 years of service. At the company, he was with the Aviation and Industrial Division as a Mechanical Engineer/Project Manager. John was also a member of the ASHRAE. John is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mildred "Mickey" Calfas, children, John Thomas Calfas Jr. and wife Julie of Oakland, CA, Rhonda Brehm and husband Warren of Excelsior Springs, MO, and Cynthia Pacholke and husband Steven of Grain Valley, MO, mother, Evangeline Calfas of Athens, Greece, grandchildren, Warren E. Brehm, Lucas M. Roberts, Hannah J. Brehm, Joseph T. Brehm, Cheyenne M. Pacholke, and Wyatt G. Pacholke, sister, Cynthia Tsatsis and husband Christos of Athens, Greece, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Sandi Bodine of Independence, MO, nieces and nephews. John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. John had a passion for sailing. He also enjoyed photography, reading, and spending time with his family; he was very special to them, and all of his dear friends. Mildred "Mickey" Calfas, 78, of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away January 8, 2016. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the Chapel. Burial will take place in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Mickey was born on November 15, 1937, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Paul and Pearl (Deckard) Bodine. She was a member of Celebration Community Fellowship Church in Blue Springs. Mickey enjoyed sailing, crocheting, knitting, yard work and traveling. Together with her husband, they spent many wonderful hours sailing on many different bodies of water. Her beloved husband, John, passed away in 2002. They shared 48 wonderful years together. Survivors include a son, John Calfas Jr. (Julie); daughter, Cynthia Pacholke (Steven); son-in-law Warren Brehm Sr.; brother, Bill Bodine (Sandi); grandchildren, Warren Brehm Jr., Lucas Roberts (Jill), Hannah Brehm, Joseph Brehm (Brittney), Cheyenne Pacholke, Wyatt Pacholke; and 2 great-grandchildren. Mickey is preceded in death by her husband, John; daughter, Rhonda Brehm; and her parents. Memorial contributions may be made the Alzheimer's Association in Mickey's memory.
