Ernest Bodine immigrated from Sweden to America in 1902 and was naturalized in 1913. His wife Bertha immigrated from Sweden in 1906 and was also naturalized in 1913. In 1920-1930, the family lived in Portland, Multnomah County where Ernest worked as a clerk in a railroad shop.

Ernest A. Bodine, 88, of 4054 N. Court Ave., a resident of Portland for many years, died Wednesday in a local hospital. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday in Ross Hollyood Chapel. Born in Hedermora, Sweden, July 6, 1882, Mr. Bodine had been a resident of the city since 1902. He was a retired general foreman for the Union Pacific Railroad, having worked for the company for 43 years. Mr. Bodine was a member of the congregation at First Covenont Church, and for 30 years was Sunday school superintendent of the Beech Street Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Bertha; a daughter, Mrs. Roy O. (Margaret) Young, Portland; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family suggests that rememberances be in the form of contributions to the Missionary Fund at First Covenant Church. Interment will be in Rose City Cemetery.
