FREDONIA, KS - Betty Jean Papon, 63, Fredonia, Kansas, died Saturday, June 14, 1986, at Fredonia Regional Hospital. She was born Aug. 1, 1922 at Fredonia, Kansas, the daughter of Altis and Mary Esther (Ritchey) Ballard. She was married to Guy Papon on May 29, 1963 in rural LaFontaine, Kansas. She was a retired secretary/clerk with the Union Gas System. Memberships include the First Christian Church of Fredonia, and Christian Women's Fellowship. Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons, Gale Monger, of Fort Worth, TX, and Bruce Papon, of Hardtner, KS; four daughters, Vicki Schultz, of Chanute, KS, Peggy Welch, of Elk City, KS, Jo Fowler, of Emporia, KS, and Pat Spillman, of Denver, CO; one brother, Byrl Ballard, of Fredonia, KS; and 11 grandchildren. Graveside service is scheduled for Tuesday at Fredonia City Cemetery, with the Rev. Carl A. Heien officiating. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association. Timmons Funeral Home of Fredonia, KS, is in charge of arrangements.
