A 38-year old District Heights (Md.) mechanic shot himself to death last night after persuading his wife to borrow a rifle "for groundhog hunting," police said. Prince Georges County Police said William H. Wheeler of 7619 Atwood street, was found dead in the bathroom of his apartment with a bullet between his eyes minutes after his wife, Kathleen [sic], borrowed a .22-caliber rifle from her daughter-in-law, who lived in an apartment in the same building. Mr. Wheeler, Officer L. F. Kreitzer reported, had been despondent over marital difficulties. The shooting took place just before the couple was to go to dinner at Mrs. Wheeler's parent's home. Prince Georges County Medical Examiner James I. Boyd, issued a certificate of death.
