In June 1900, Louisa I. Bodine, age 22 and single, lived with her parents in Elberton, Whitman County, Washington and was employed as a house servant. She was not living with her parents in 1910.
On 12 Sept 1918 in Libby, Montana, Samuel Purley Johnston registered for the World War I Draft. He reported he was born 26 March 1875, was engaged as a merchant, and married to Luisa Isabel Johnston, of Gateway, Montana.
In 1920 and 1930, Samuel and Louisa Johnston lived in Mesa, Maricopa County where they operated a general store. According to her Arizona death certificate, Isabel Johnson died of tuberculosis and was buried in Webb Cemetery. The Arizona death certificate of Samuel Johnston states he died of a fractured hip, suffered 8 days before, and was buried in Mesa Cemetery.

MESA, Sept. 18.---Mrs. Louise Isabel Johnson, 48, wife of S. T. Johnson of the O. S. Stapley Hardware company, died this morning at the family home on North Robson street following a prolonged illness. The Johnsons have resided in the valley for the past six years, coming here originally for the benefit of Mrs. Johnson's health. Surviving the deceased are her husband, and several brothers and sisters, among them being Mrs. Leonard Miller of Eugene, Oregon; Mrs. Norman Davidson of Elberton, Washington; F. H. Bodine of Bend, Oregon; J. M. Bodine of Post Falls, Idaho; Mrs. E. D. Macdonald, Mrs. L. E. Stapley, Earl Bodine and Charles L. Bodine of Salt River valley towns. The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the M. L. Gibbons undertaking chapel, Dr. A. S. Hale officiating. The Mesa chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, will attend the service in a body and will conduct the ceremony at grave side. The body, it was announced today, will rest in state at the mortuary from 1 to 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The casket will not be opened at the service.

MESA, Nov. 13---Samuel P. Johnston, resident here 28 years and employee of the O. S. Stapley Company until his retirement in 1943, died Friday in Southside District Hospital following a 10-day illness. He was 73 years old. A native of Dayton, Wash., Mr. Johnston was a member of the local Oriental Lodge No. 20, Free and Accepted Order of Masons and the Order of Eastern Star. He is survived by a sister, Minta Johnston, of Dayton. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Monday from the M. L. Gibbons Mortuary Chapel, the Rev. Oliver Werner, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. Graveside services in the Mesa Cemetery will be in charge of Oriental Lodge.
