Notes for: Charles Lanning Hill Bodine
In the 1880 Census he is Charles L. Bodine. See the 1880 Census of 1st Ward, District 2, Trenton, Mercer Co., NJ. He is listed as a decorator (age 20, NJ, NJ NJ). This is the same occupation his son Fred L. Bodine was listed as having in his obituary.
In the 1920 Census of Bucks Co., PA, Charles' wife is listed as Minnie L. M. Bodine, age 42, PA, PA, ENG. She could be a second wife.
From Ronny Bodine:
In the 1882 record of their marriage Charles is named Charles L. H. Bodine, likely Charles Lanning Hill Bodine. In 1900, the Bodine family lived in Bordentown, Burlington County where Charles worked as a farm laborer. Living with the family was Charles Bodine's father-in-law, Lewis A. Neill. In 1910, Anna M. Bodine, age 50, lived in Trenton, Mercer County. Her household included her sons Charles and Fred. She reported she was married and had been so for 20 years, but her husband was not living with the family. In 1910, Charles Bodine, age 49, lived in Camden, Camden County where he worked as a house painter. He reported he was married, but his wife was not living with him.
From Records of the Wiley Methodist Episcopal Church, Camden, Camden County:
On 30 April 1919 in Camden, Chas. L. H. Bodine, born in Trenton, resident of Camden, was married to Minnie L. M. Mosley, born in Sellersville, resident of Philadelphia.
From Pennsylvania Federal Census Records:
1920 (7 Jan) Hilltown Twp., Bucks Co.: Chas. L. H. BODINE 58 NJ Farmer, Minnie L. M. 42 PA wife, Letitia BONES 3 11/12 PA Boarder.
From Florida Federal Census Records:
1930 (27 April) Conway, Orange Co., FL: Minnie L. Bodine 48 PA widowed, Lettie P. Bower 14 PA Cousin.
From Florida State Census Records:
1935 Conway, Orange Co., Fla.: Mrs. M. L. Bodine 46 PA, Letty Bowers 18 FL Cousin Stenographer.
From Florida Federal Census Records:
1940 (28 May) Orlando, Orange Co.: Minnie L. BODINE 50 PA widowed, William ELDREDGE 27 NJ son-in-law Clerk-Bank, Lettie P. 24 PA dau. Stenographer-Law Office.
Although he is recorded as Charles A. Bodine in the 1900 census, it appears likely he is identical with Charles Hill Bodine. Perhaps the confusion resulted between a misunderstanding in the pronunciation of the middle initial of A --ay and H -aych. The fact that both Annie and Charles claim they were married in 1910 but neither's spouse is living with them and that both men were born in March 1861 seems to confirm this.
