Mrs. Alice H. Bodine, 53, was killed yesterday when she ran on to the Asbury-Anderson road in Washington Township, Warren County, to retrieve a wind-blown hat and was struck by a car. Trooper Michael Blahut, of the Washington state police station, reported that Mrs. Bodine's hat was blown away as she and her husband, Charles, worked beside a barn on their farm about two miles south of Washington. The scene is several hundred yards from their home. The husband watched helplessly as Mrs. Bodine ran onto the road only a few yards beyond the corner of the barn, and bent down to pick up the hat. She was struck by a car driven by Joseph B_____. The accident happened shortly after 4 p.m. Dr. A. U. Bertland, of Washington, assistant Warren County physician, pronounced Mrs. Bodine dead at the scene. She suffered head injuries. Dr. Bertland authorized removal of the body to the DeVoe Funeral Home, Washington. B_____ was freed under $1,000 bail last night by Magistrate Arthur L. Alexander at Port Colden, to await hearing April 23 on a charge of causing death by automobile. Mrs. Bodine was born in Montana, Warren County, a daughter of the late Chris and Harriet Rinehart Radle. She was a member of Asbury Methodist Church. In addition to her husband she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Carl Wyckoff, Penwell; Mrs. Robert May, Washington, and Mrs. Philip Hazen, Hackettstown; two brothers, Raymond and Allan Randle, both of Montana; a sister, Mrs. Harry Wagner, Washington, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the DeVoe Funeral Home.

Charles Fletcher Bodine, 77, of Rymon Road, Washington R.D. 3, died yesterday in Warren Hospital after a long illness. He was a farmer. Born in Franklin Township, he was a son of the late Frank and Bertha Smith Bodine. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Asbury, a 50-year member of Warren Grange 110, Broadway, and a former Bethlehem Township (N.J.) committeeman. Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth Holmes; one stepson, Joseph Donahue, Washington; three daughters, Mrs. Bertha H. Wyckoff, Port Murray R.D., Mrs. Anna May, Washington, and Mrs. Betty J. Haven, Hackettstown R.D.; one brother, Robert, of Cocoa, Fla.; four sisters, Miss Margaret Bodine, Mrs. Jane Hoppock, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoppock and Mrs. Alice Kries, all of Washington; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the DeVoe Funeral Home, Washington. Interment will be in Musconetcong Valley Cemetery, Hampton.
