Although his borth was recorded as April 1886 in the 1900 census, when he registered for the World War I draft on 5 June 1917 in Peoria, he reported his birth as 6 June 1886 in Walnit, Illinois. James and Ida Bodine lived in Peoria, Peoria County through 1930 where in 1910 James worked as a grocery store clerk, in 1920 as a laundry shipping clerk and in 1930 as an assembler in a factory.
