David Bodine, 86, of Grangeville died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at his home after a short battle with lung cancer. David was born Oct. 6, 1915, at Craigmont to David and Elizabeth Shearer Bodine. When he was 7, he moved with his family to Pasadena, Calif., and at age 16, they moved to Lewiston, where he graduated from Lewiston High School in 1934. He continued his education at the University of Idaho. He met and married his wife, Frances Robinson, in Lewiston in 1939. Their first few years of marriage were spent in the Lewiston area, where David worked in an auto garage. In the spring of 1941, they moved to the Grangeville area, where he began farming. He retired from farming in 1977 but continued to be a part of the family farming operation until the time of his death. His wife died in 1993. David was a road commissioner for the Union Highway District and served on the ASCS County Committee for a number of years. He was a 4-H leader while his children were growing up. For many years, he was an active member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Grangeville. Survivors include his son, David Bodine Jr. of Grangeville; his brother, Richard Bodine of Lewiston; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Caroline Bodine Vasquez in 1982, and his sister, Caroline. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Blackmer Funeral Home at Grangeville. A graveside service will be held at the Mount Idaho Cemetery at Grangeville on Monday at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made to the Syringa General Hospital Foundation or the Syringa General Hospital Hospice, both in Grangeville.
